Tia Sunshine Dye is the artist and owner of Tia Sunshine Art, and the entrepreneur behind Aligned Exhibits and the Sunshine Align Community.

Tia Sunshine creates custom artwork inspired by personal stories, both lived and internal. With a background in Theatre Design, she brings the same passion for creating atmosphere in her paintings as she did supporting theatrical stories through lighting and sets. Tia is also an excellent listener and collaborator, bringing clients’ ideas for commissions to life.

Tia’s first watercolor lesson was in 2018, and every since she has explored the medium and how it can be combined with other art supplies. She prefers to mount much of her completed art on paper onto cradled wood panels and recently began painting on wood panels treated with watercolor ground, often using the grain of the wood to support the composition. Both of these paintings are finished and protected with thin coats of cold wax. This finish provides a more robust and intimate experience, without the painting hiding behind glass.

First hour on a new drawing practice.
Enjoyed a series of 20min figure drawing sessions at @gutmangallery last night.
Study/sketch with pencils on tan toned paper. 6x10”. I took advice passed on by a friend to start with the nose and had much better results with less correction. Trying to move away from using a grid to aid in drawing from life. Almost 2.5 hour
Another 30 minutes (2hours) on this drawing practice before bed last night.

Tia has a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology, with most of her professional experience focused on set and lighting design as well as technical direction and stage management. This professional experience has provided Tia with an understanding of collaboration and the visual expression of ideas focused on purpose and meaning. In that spirit, she believes that people should be allowed to reinvent themselves frequently and with artistic purpose.
